Iggy Peck, Architect
Mrs. Hoover's Kindergarten architects built their very own structures! Their lesson was based on the book Iggy Peck, Architect, a fun-filled, inspiring story about the power of teamwork and the importance of celebrating individual gifts and self-expression. Great job, Kindergarten! |

A MESSAGE FROM MR. MCMANUS |

The snow and the turn of semester are tried and true reminders that learning and seasons are inevitable in the lives of our children. I hope you are faring well with the wintery weather and that your children are feeling like they are hitting their groove with a new semester. February is always a fast moving month but an important one as a building block for the spring to follow. There is so much to look forward to, even as we brave chilly car lines and dark (but lengthening!) days.

Semester reports are on their way home soon, an important snapshot of learning and conversation about growth. In Friday’s chapel, I shared a preview of Xanadu, the middle school spring musical, which is in daily rehearsal and production. Basketball is in full swing and the teams have been hosting and travelling, growing stronger as the season progresses. We have opened our gym back up to visitors and encourage you to come cheer our teams on. We’ll also be cheering our “mathletes” for our big annual math bowl in the middle of the month. In the classroom, teachers are building projects and building on year-long skills, as well as honoring Black History Month.
All of this is happening as we are seeing real and rapid movement in the health environment surrounding the school. As I’ve shared previously, the overwhelming arrival and now steady abatement of the Omicron variant has led us all to measure and understand the virus in new ways. This has meant really good things on campus as we’ve been able to reinstate some practices from before the wave and also open up in small, new ways which will be visible and joyful (for instance, see our notes about chapels and visitors below!). We are trending in a positive direction and looking forward to what’s next.
Our school leadership and our health advisors are using this period of early February to take a substantial look at all of our mitigation measures and health policies so we are ready to take the next steps. We will have more to share with you in the week following our winter break. At that time, I am optimistic that the current trends will support well-considered and student-centered approaches to school for the spring. I’m proud of where we’ve been and excited for where we will go together as a community.
Have a great week and thanks, as always, for sharing your children with us. |
