FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL August 23, 2021
Dear Montgomery Community,
I am writing to share with you our updated mitigations plan for the beginning of the school year. As we look ahead to school opening up fully in two weeks, this resource page on our website will guide you through questions related to COVID-19 on campus for students, staff, and visitors. Please take a moment to review it before coming to campus whether that be for this week’s middle school transition camp, next week’s Welcoming Day event or our first day on September 8th.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit my own mixed emotions in even having to share mitigations at all. Each and every member of this community does their part to keep our children safe, and we all hoped that overall conditions with the virus would be more favorable today than the current conditions. That said, we are in a much different and improved position than what we experienced last school year. As I look ahead, I get more excited each day about what’s in store for our students and what awaits them in the year ahead.
Montgomery’s campus is springing back to life. Our mitigations will both help us do that safely and provide greater flexibility for us to operate in the manner we know is best for learning. We will make ample use of our outdoor spaces, be back in our normal classrooms and support spaces, and have the fun activities and events that make our school such a great place to be. We know we can be successful because of our track record last year and the resilience and “connection” of our community.
As always, I want to thank the many team members and experts who help guide our mitigations including the medical professionals on our Health Advisory Committee and our Board-administrative joint Task Force. And, of course, a huge thanks goes to the teachers and staff who provide a safe and joyful environment for our students each day.
Warmly,
Tom McManus Head of School
