Dear Montgomery Families,

On Friday, October 7, 2022 Montgomery School will support Puerto Rico as they continue to recover from the most recent storm that caused so much damage to schools and communities.

Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico on Sept. 18 as a Category 1 storm, delivering over 30 inches of rain, which engulfed entire communities, destroyed roads and critical infrastructure, and killed at least 13 people.

Both Lower School and Middle School will participate in a “Dress Down Day” to raise money for this effort. The cost is $2 per student who chooses to participate. Donating more than $2 is welcomed but not required. Several faculty and community members offered to match donations. The Middle School student leading this initiative is 8th grader, Keagan, who was personally affected by flooding a few years ago. In Lower School, Luke and Calvin, both 5th graders, have stepped up to help organize and lead as well. Charles Hambrick, 5/6th grade Math teacher is overseeing the overall project and will provide total money raised and donation of funds to the Red Cross.

Thanks for the support and community outreach you all provide. This is an important cause as the children and families in Puerto Rico need help to rebuild and establish facilities and infrastructure to deliver education to their communities.

Warmly,

Marianne Kaplan
