Rehearsals for the upcoming Middle School musical, Xanadu, are well underway! Montgomery's musical program offers so many great opportunities for students -- from acting and singing to lighting, stage crew and set design. For many, it is their first performing arts experience. Throughout the years, we have watched as students discover their talents and passion on Montgomery's stage, and then continue to pursue them for years to come. We are excited to see this year's cast shine in a fun and engaging performance!

A MESSAGE FROM MR. RAJARIGAM |
|
|
Every new beginning - a New Year, a birthday, a new semester, and even every new morning - presents an opportunity to start afresh, to reminisce, to celebrate. On Tuesday, January 18, Montgomery students and teachers will begin their 2nd semester. It seems like we began this school year just a short while ago, and now we are at the halfway point.
At this time, I invite you to take a moment to celebrate the growth in our students since the beginning of the school year. Let’s spend a few minutes this weekend reflecting with our children and documenting what they have learned during the course of the first semester. If possible at all, in middle school grades, try not to look at the Canvas gradebook or worry about whether they made honors or high honors. Grades are helpful in charting student growth but it is also very limiting. Starting with a blank sheet of paper, have your child write down what they know now and can do in the different subjects they are learning that they did not know or couldn’t do back in September. From debating to dissecting, from writing a 5 paragraph essay to solving an algebraic equation, from producing a piece of art or music to saying something in a foreign language, from learning to manage time to asking a teacher for help - just some examples. I know there are more.
Having elevated the accomplishments of the 1st semester, a good exercise to engage in next is setting goals for the new semester. This week, our middle school advisors will be guiding their advisees in setting goals. Some of you may be familiar with the SMART Goals framework. I have found this way of thinking about goals helpful both personally and professionally. Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-bound
I wish everyone a very rewarding second half of the year. May the learnings from the past guide us into our futures. |

Monday, 1/31 - Friday, 2/4 CTP5 Testing 3rd - 7th Grade Students
Third through seventh grade students will be taking the CTP 5 standardized tests 1/31-2/4. Please remember to keep the week as stress free as possible. Enjoy more family time as this is a “no homework week” for these grades. Some things to keep in mind: - Make sure your child is getting a good night’s sleep and provide a healthy breakfast.
- If you normally allow electronics in the bedroom at night, this would be a good week to give that practice a break.
- Please also refrain from making any appointments during the morning hours of testing week so your child will not have to make up the testing at another time.
- If your child is ill during the week, it’s ok! Please keep him/her home. We will contact you to schedule a time to make up the tests.
