Chalk and Walk
Friday's Chalk and Walk event was a huge success! Students expressed their creativity by making chalk art with their buddies. Later in the day, families came together to tour the artwork around campus while enjoying food, fun, and entertainment! |

A MESSAGE FROM MRS. MAROTTA |
|
|
|
We welcomed our return to the Dining Room this past week! Students were so excited! Last week, we prepared the students for our expectations during our lunch period and how special it is to eat in our Dining Room together. Each grade level met with their teachers and me to share how it all works! |
|
|
Here are some talking points that we hit upon during our discussions: -
The room we eat our lunch in at Montgomery is called the Dining Room. At the start of each conversation, I asked the students if they knew the name of the room where we enjoy our meal together at Montgomery. Most thought it was called the “cafeteria” - for good reason! We've been using the Dining Room as a cafeteria of sorts, where we have been gathering our wonderfully prepared food and then return to the classroom to eat. Now we are actually able to dine in the Dining Room again. We talked about dining rooms in our own homes and how special it is when family and friends gather in this room to enjoy one another, eat together, and display our finest manners. That is just what we will be doing at school! One student shared that she will “eat in the Dining Room like it is Thanksgiving each day!” Wow! Exactly!
- Food is served at the tables. There will be no more lines to pick up our lunches. We will be eating family style, with the food being served by the teacher, and everyone enjoying the yummy food prepared for us.
- The salad bar is back! Students can choose to create a salad, enjoy fruit, sandwich items, and other choices at our salad bar.
- Soup, peanut butter and jelly, or peanut butter sandwiches are always available for students. And third through fifth grade students are really excited about the juice machine!
-
Manners are SO important in the Dining Room. We address our wonderful kitchen staff by name; we say please and thank you; we chew with our mouths closed; we hold our utensils properly; we put napkins in our laps, and we enjoy pleasant table conversations with students from other grades!
-
We sit at the same tables for the month of April, and will change again to new tables in May. Students haven’t really had the opportunity to really get to know students and teachers from other grades. This is a unique and special part of the Montgomery dining experience!
Let us know what your child is saying about their dining experience! I love hearing from you. Only at Montgomery
I met a set of lovely grandparents last week who were attending Chapel. If you’ve attended a Lower School chapel, it is such a treat for me to dialogue with the whole Lower School in Bell Hall. I often call upon students to answer questions or to share. The grandparent visitors who I talked to reminded me how special it is that ALL students want to participate. The level of participation at Montgomery really is unique and wonderful. I sometimes forget that this is not the norm in schools. I remember my own mindset in school when I was growing up - just lay low, and I won’t be called upon! At Montgomery, not only do students want to participate, they eagerly share their knowledge and experiences that are quite impressive. I love the joyful and accepting atmosphere that comes along with student sharing! Thank you, students!
Looking forward to many sunny spring days ahead, Susan |
