Advisor Program
Middle School students meet daily with their advisors, who provide sensitive guidance and encouragement during these critical years. The advisors serve as the primary liaison between the school and the home. Middle School parents should expect to hear from their child’s advisor, in some form or another, every two to three weeks. The ratio of advisees to advisor is on average 9 to 1.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays students meet with their advisor group for a thirty minute extended advisor period. On these days advisor groups focus their time on a conversation of current events, a sustained silent reading time or a free choice time. Often during the free choice time, advisors will refer to our Middle School Advisor blog for relevant discussion topics.
On Tuesdays and Fridays students meet with their advisors for a ten minute check-in time. During these sessions, advisors will take attendance and will routinely ask the following three questions.
- How did last night go?
- Are you prepared for today?
- Is there anything you would like to see me about later today?
At the end of each day there is a twenty minute advisor period. During this time advisors will ask:
- How did your day go?
- Do you know what your homework is?
- Have you packed everything you need for tonight?
- Is there anything you would like to talk about?
