Lower School

Top Elementary School Head in Chester County

From the time our young students start their day shaking hands with a teacher or administrator at 8:30 until dismissal at 3:15 PM, children are actively engaged in learning. Montgomery’s Lower School core curriculum includes Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Spanish (French in fifth grade), Art, Music, Library, Technology, and Physical Education. Teachers celebrate student successes, support their struggles, and encourage the development of everyone’s personal best.

Montgomery’s Lower School has a special energy, an enthusiastic spirit of camaraderie, a curiosity about our world, and an excitement to learn new things every day that’s contagious. A variety of learning is experienced throughout the day. Students may be on the floor working on a project, outside by the creek for a science lesson, laughing on the playground, or determined to learn a new skill during P.E. While academics are strongly emphasized, Montgomery is so much more than a reading, writing, and arithmetic school. In the Lower School children are loved dearly and celebrated for the unique individuals that they are. It’s a place where everyone knows each child and recognizes his/her special talents and gifts, while at the same time offering a supportive environment that encourages the students to take risks and stretch to try new things for the very first time. Even when it looks really hard, our students will always take risks as our teachers successfully nurture in each child the fortitude to always try.

Our small class sizes allow teachers to closely monitor each student’s development and to challenge them with age and ability-appropriate activities. Our goal in the Lower School is to prepare our young children to make a positive transition to Montgomery’s Middle School program in 6th grade, fully equipped with confidence, a strong academic foundation, and a curiosity for learning.
