Traditions & Events

Montgomery School, founded in 1915, has kept many traditions dating back to its earlier years. Several of those traditions act as a “glue,” holding together the School that was once located on Montgomery Avenue in Wynnewood, and is now located in Chester Springs. Alumni from both campuses share some of the same memories and experiences, and that ability to reminisce about the same traditions is an important part of the collective memory of the School. As the School has grown, new traditions have sprung up, and the Chester Springs location has now added some newer traditions to the list.

Some of the traditions that date back to the Wynnewood campus include:
  • Family-Style Dining – where faculty members share tables with small groups of students in the dining room.
  • Greek and Roman Games – a half-day event for the entire School. Students are divided into two teams, (Greeks vs. Romans), and the day’s events encourage healthy competition and team building.
  • Eighth Grade Chapels –when 8th grade students prepare and deliver a speech for the school, related to character.
While other traditions that have been added more recently include:
  • Deck-the-Halls – where 8th grade students paint holiday images onto the windows of Bell Hall.
  • Fall Fun Day activities – including a hayride around campus to pick out pumpkins in the upper fields.
  • The all-school Art Show for Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day.
  • The Alumni Holiday Gathering, as alumni from across the country gather to see old friends.
  • Cultural Arts Week – where artists in a variety of mediums are invited to give workshops and performances.
  • Friday Night Lights Basketball and Lacrosse Under the Lights games, raising money for a worthy cause in the process.
  • The Spaghetti dinner, a community-wide fundraiser organized and run by our 6th grade students for causes like Cystic Fibrosis.
  • The Alumni graduation speaker, where a past graduate is asked back to deliver a keynote address at commencement each year.
