Field Trips

Though modern technology is making the “virtual field trip” a reality in this day and age, there is still nothing like climbing the stairs of the yellow school bus with all of your classmates, sitting on those green, vinyl seats, and traveling down the road to a new location! Field trips are an integral part of the Montgomery School program, and each one is unique in its purpose as it presents students with a broad range of experiences.

Field trips start in the youngest grades with visits to colonial farms, museums, and special exhibits, like the 3rd grade trip to see the Narnia Exhibit at the Franklin Institute. The middle grades go on some real adventures, like the visit to Hawk Mountain, or practical learning, like the visit to a recycling plant. Middle School field trips often include cultural experiences, like a Shakespearian play, a Japanese Tea House, or an African Dance Troupe. There are thought-provoking trips to places like the Liberty Museum and the Constitution Center as well.

The field trips at Montgomery are generally integrated into the curriculum, though sometimes we just want to take advantage of a great opportunity to expose the students to a new way of thinking, or a different kind of art. No matter where the trip takes them, however, most students agree that the bus ride there and back was the best part of the day!
