  • April Habits of Mind

    Our Habits of Mind for the month of April are Thinking Flexibly and Striving for Accuracy. We enhance the habit of thinking flexibly when we must alter our perspective and see things from other points of view. It’s great to be passionate about things but at the same time being open minded and flexible in our thinking can go a long way as well. Teaching our children to be flexible is easier said than done. Teaching them them the value of looking at things in another way, being able to change perspectives, generate alternatives and consider options are life-long habits that will strengthen their character.

    This month our Habits of Mind are “Thinking Inderdependently” and “Managing Impulsivity”. For the purpose of this weeks newsletter, we will focus on Managing Impulsivity, which as you can guess is all about taking our time. In my guidance classes, with our lower school students, we have talked about thinking before we act, remaining calm and being thoughtful and deliberative with our words and actions.

  • National Eating Disorder Awareness Week

    February 26th - March 3rd is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. For 25 years the NED Association has been trying to bring awareness to this disease. The theme this year is “Everybody Knows Somebody”. As a school, we too are committed to promoting a healthy body image and fostering high self esteem among our students.

    I love February, I think because that means we are much closer to the spring. But I also love February because it is a month of love and friendship and celebrating those that mean so much to us. In guidance, we will highlight friendship and what it means to be a friend but we will also discuss our two habits for the month of February, “Creating, Imagining and Innovating” and “Taking Responsible Risks”.
