Montgomery's long standing tradition of hosting Greek and Roman Games will continue on Friday, May 18th, beginning at 8:30 am. Students will gather early in the morning with their team to warm up and prepare for the morning's contests. The Greeks and the Romans then march up to the upper athletic fields to begin the day. All students from Kindergarten through 8th grade compete in contests throughout the course of the morning, including such games as the chariot race, the sack race, the sprint relay, and the tug of war. Students cheer each other on, and demonstrate their competitive spirit as well as good sportsmanship. Eighth graders are chosen as captains of each team, their job being to lead them team and encourage all team members in the games. All parents and alumni are encouraged to attend the games as well as a community picnic that follows.
For safety reasons, there will be no pets allowed at the games or picnic.
Grandparents and Special Friends visited campus on Friday May 4th. The rain held off, and smiling faces were everywhere. Children took their special visitors by the hand, showing them to the delicious array of breakfast foods in the dining room, then to their classroom for some special morning activities. The morning was topped off by our First and Second Graders performing Aarff under the direction of Jerald Bennett and Yoon Lim. The students performed amazingly, singing numerous songs, reciting their lines, and keeping the audience well entertained. Thanks for making this such a special morning for our students!
Megan Palevich, Curriculum Coordinator and 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher, has been recognized by Edutopia as one of Ten Women Who Rock...and Teach. March was “Women’s History Month.” Lisa M. Dabbs M.Ed. (@teachingwthsoul on Twitter) is the facilitator of Edutopia's New Teacher Connections group. Lisa recognized ten women in education across the globe, and our Megan was one of the ten. Lisa writes, “These are ten women who inspire, who pour their hearts out and give of their time to this great profession we call teaching. These are women who rock their work, teach many and support new teachers!" This is a huge honor for Megan and we are fortunate to have her at Montgomery School in her dual role, working with both our students and our faculty. Here is the link to Edutopia's article praising Megan and the other nine women recognized in this way. Be sure to congratulate Megan when you see her!
