**IMPORTANT MESSAGE**

Name Cards for Carline

Your name card must be visible on your dashboard when picking up your child(ren) in carline. Because of the glare of windshields, unless they are held up or on the visor, the carline teachers cannot read them.  This is imperative for the safety of the students and to ensure efficiency during the dismissal process.

DEADLINES AND REMINDERS

Reminders from the School Nurse

Medications

If you need to send in over-the-counter medications for your child to take during school hours, it MUST be in its original bottle with a note from the parent/guardian with instructions of when to dispense it, for how long, and the reason. If it will be longer than 10 days, it must be accompanied by a doctor's note. Prescription medications MUST ALWAYS be in the original bottle, with the child's name and a doctor's note.

Allergies
Please make sure you have filled out an Allergy Form for any children who have allergies and Medication Order, signed by a doctor AND the parent/guardian for any children who require an EpiPen or inhaler. Please make sure that you send in an EpiPen/Inhaler if needed and that a second one is sent in for any children who play sports so that it can be kept in the team's First Aid Bag.

Stay Healthy
WASH WASH WASH those hands! Flu season is upon us. Please remember that children MUST be SYMPTOM FREE (including but not limited to a temperature greater than 99.9, vomiting and diarrhea) for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

Thank you to all those who sent in their health forms. If you haven't sent your child's forms in yet, please do so immediately.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Systems of Linear Equations

Students in Mrs. Macciocca's 8th grade math class learned how to solve systems of linear equations by graphing. Each group of 3-4 students were given a box with a problem and supplies. Students had to read the problem, write a system of equations for the problem, and create a graph using string, duct tape and sidewalk chalk to ultimately find the solution.

Mrs. Macciocca's goal in using this method was not for students to gain deeper conceptual understanding but to create a memory linked with how to find the solution of a system using a graph.
